Maori Commands

We are learning to use general appropriate pronunciation, stress, rhythm and intonation with Maori commands.

We had fun learning by matching Maori words with their English translations. We tried to pronounce them properly using low or soft voices. We're able to learn 15 commands. We enjoyed matching them up that we did it again a few times.

"What is the Maori word for homai?" asked Jacob.

"Give me," answered Zora.

"I know the 'Maori word for speak," declared Connor.

Bogdan asked, "What is stand in Maori?"

"What is pakipaki? Asked Ijaz.

"I know what look is in Maori," admitted Ijaz.

Here are our Maori commands and their translations.

Year 7-8 versus Teacher

What a game that was, a friendly game of netball between Year 7-8 girls against teachers! The teachers took it really hard that last year they lost two games. This year is a different story. They practised hard one day for an hour after school.

And you know, what? Their determination and perseverance paid off. They won! I haven't seen them as excited and happy afterwards in the staffroom!

Mrs Val Cassin was the referee and she of course did a wonderful and fair job. Thanks a lot!

First Holy Communion 2011

The First Holy Communion was very special celebration on Sunday November 20 at St Mary's Church. It was wonderful to see our gorgeous children in their best, happy to receive the Eucharist for the first time in their lives.

It is timely that in Room 4 we are learning about the Eucharist. Eucharist refers to both the celebration of the Mass, that is, the Eucharistic liturgy and the bread and wine which after consecration are transubstantiated (changed in substance) into the body and blood of Christ.

Mrs O'Connor's visit

On Wednesday November 2, Mrs Cushla O'Connor from the Religious Education Office visited Room 4. She spoke about prayers and other interesting information we can do during prayer time. Everyone took it to heart and was encouraged on how to focus more when saying our prayers. Thank you so much, Mrs O'Connor for such an inspiring session.

We sang 'Lead Me Lord' and Mrs O'Connor was pleased with how prayerful we are in our class.

Kia Kaha - Bullying

We are learning to identify what bullying is, it's effects qand how to eliminate it.

Our class discussed the features of bullying, how it looks like and how it sounds like. We explained how bullying makes us feel and described it effects. We then learned how to stop bullying, by identifyng people to ask for help. Our posters below are the messages we made about bullying.
